This week, several leaders and whistleblowers of the artificial intelligence industry raised serious concerns about the risks tied to the race toward superintelligence. Innovation has to keep moving forward, and the upside for the American people is real, but that progress does not come without new risks. For the sake of our country and national security, we must win this race to ensure we are not answering to China.
In this pursuit, however, comes the responsibility to protect humanity and American citizens first and foremost. As elected officials, it is not our job or position to hope for the best and do nothing. It is our responsibility to start these discussions and bring world leaders and heads of state to the table now, as nations once did to negotiate the terms of the nuclear age.
